When Husam Abdel Atty joined Alert, he immediately felt at home. As the Head of Business Development, he is responsible for expanding the Alert’s presence in the Middle East and ensuring continued value for their customers. “I’m very passionate about adding value,” he shares, “looking for the win-win and contributing to the growth of both the company and our clients.”
Having been with the company for just a few months, Husam has already felt the impact of Alert’s entrepreneurial culture, which, combined with its visionary leadership, made it a great place to work. “Alert has been doing that since 1995, and in the region since 2012,” he explains, reflecting on the company’s long-standing reputation. His passion for fostering growth, both internally and externally, perfectly aligns with the company’s goals, making his role a natural fit. But the real question is, what ignites Husam’s Happy.Work.Life?
What truly drives Husam is the feeling that his work is meaningful. “It doesn’t feel like work,” he says with a smile. For him, the most fulfilling part of his job is staying connected with stakeholders and continuously adding value for customers. It’s this constant interaction and impact that motivates him every day.
Outside of work, Husam finds joy in simple pleasures. “I love sports, reading non-fiction, and traveling,” he reveals. His passion for these activities reflects his desire for constant learning and personal growth, values that clearly carry over into his professional life.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, and fluent in Arabic, Husam’s unique background provides him with a distinct advantage in his role. Having been in sales and business development in the Middle East since 2014, he is well-acquainted with the nuances of the region. “Combining two cultures is an added value,” he notes, referring to how his dual understanding of both Western and Middle Eastern cultures allows him to navigate business relationships with ease.
This cultural blend isn’t just personal for Husam—it’s embedded in the company itself. Alert, a company of Dutch origin, has its headquarters in the Netherlands, with many of its management team members also hailing from there. Husam’s connection to both worlds makes him a natural fit for bridging the company’s European roots with its business expansion into the Middle East. “Having a foot in both cultures helps me understand and manage the HR challenges that come with doing business in the EMEA region.”
Husam’s first few months at Alert, have been filled with positive experiences. He cites the team, the collaborative spirit, customer meetings, and the opportunities as the highlights so far. “This is only the beginning, which excites me,” he says, hinting at the many opportunities still to come.
When asked about his favorite lunch spots, Husam admits there are too many to name. However, he singles out one: “If I have to choose, it’s Al Ustaadi Kabab in Bur Dubai,” he says.
One of the aspects of Alert that surprised Husam the most was the diversity of the team. “I like the fact that the team is so diverse, with all our backgrounds and cultures, but everyone works as one team,” he explains. This inclusivity allows everyone to bring their authentic selves to work, and, as Husam believes, it’s this authenticity that brings out the best in people.
After a busy day, Husam enjoys unwinding in some of Dubai’s most iconic spots. “I love to hang around at Kite Beach or just go to the Dubai Mall, order a coffee, and watch the tourists and residents passing by,” he shares.
